Poetry Society of New Hampshire - Jason Tandon & Jeff Friedman

The Poetry Society of New Hampshire meets at Gibson's Bookstore on the third Wednesday of every month. Our headliners this month are Jason Tandon and Jeff Friedman. An open mic follows their readings (arrive early to ensure a spot on the sign-up sheet). All are welcome, newcomers are encouraged! 

Jason Tandon was born in Hartford, CT in 1975. He is the author of three collections of poetry: Quality of Life (Black Lawrence-Dzanc, 2013), Give over the Heckler and Everyone Gets Hurt, winner of the 2006 St. Lawrence Book Award for a first collection (Black Lawrence-Dzanc, 2009), and Wee Hour Martyrdom (sunnyoutside, 2008). His poetry and reviews have appeared in such journals and magazines as AGNI Online, Bellingham Review, Boston Review, Columbia Poetry Review, Esquire, Harvard Review Online, Mid-American Review, Pleiades, Poetry International, Prairie Schooner, and Spoon River Poetry Review. His poems have also been featured on Verse Daily and on NPR’s The Writer’s Almanac with Garrison Keillor. He earned a BA and MA in English from Middlebury College and an MFA from the University of New Hampshire, and he teaches in the College of Arts & Sciences Writing Program at Boston University.

 

Jeff Friedman is the author of six collections of poetry: Pretenders (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2014), Working in Flour (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2011), Black Threads (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2007), Taking Down the Angel (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2003), Scattering the Ashes (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 1998), and The Record-Breaking Heat Wave (BkMk Press-University of Missouri-Kansas City, 1986). His poems, mini stories and translations have appeared in many literary magazines, including American Poetry Review, Poetry, 5 AM, New England Review, Poetry International, Quick Fiction, North American Review, Missouri Review, Ontario Review, Antioch Review, Agni Online,Boulevard, Big Bridge, 100-Word Story, Prairie Schooner, Sentence, New England Review Digital, Vestal Review, Plume, and The New Republic.  His poems recently appeared in the anthology The New Bloomsbury Anthology of Contemporary Jewish Poets, and one of his flash stories has recently appeared in the anthology Flash Fiction Funny He and Dzvinia Orlowsky cotranslated Memorials, a selection of poems by Polish poet Mieczyslaw Jastrun, scheduled for publication by Dialogos in early 2015. A contributing editor to Natural Bridge and Anthem Literary Journal, he lives in West Lebanon, New Hamphshire with the artist Colleen Randall and their dog Bekka.
