Gibby doesn't live at the store (pesky cafe health codes...) but rather with Bookseller Jo after he was found abandoned in the store bathrooms! He has grown into a fine feline with excellent taste in literature. See his picks below.
Gibby hopes you're all staying warm and cozy during these chilly winter days, and reading lots of good books!
This week, Gibby has picked out a book perfect for young humans who love interacting with their books, and searching for things on the page: Mister Kitty is Lost by Greg Pizzoli.
Gibby's New Year's Resolution is to nap more, and cause slightly less chaos. He's got the napping part down, at least.
Gibby's pick this week is the second in a picture book series that everyone at Gibson's adores. The Kindest Red by Ibtihaj Muhammad and S. K. Ali, illustrated by Hatem Aly, is the follow-up to staff favorite The Proudest Blue.
Happy New Year from Gibby!
When Gibby loves a toy, he loves it hard, often resulting in that toy becoming threadbare and limp and a bit shredded. This week, Gibby recommends Nubby by Dan Richards, illustrated by Shanda McCloskey, a story about a stuffed animal who is beloved, yet overworked. Gibby thinks you should get this for all of the young humans in your life with loveys that are barely recognizable from what they once looked like.
If you've ever wanted a sweet little book that celebrates bookstores and cats and also feels like a bedtime story that you could read to a child or enjoy as an adult, then Gibby has the perfect recommendation for you this week: Good Night, Little Bookstore by Amy Cherrix, illustrated by E. B. Goodale.
Gibby's September 13th pick
Gibby is at his very core a Bookstore Cat, which is why he is so delighted to recommend a brand new book this week called Goodnight, Little Bookstore by Amy Cherrix, illustrated by E.B. Goodale.
Happy Election Day! Gibby can't vote, but he hopes that if you can, you will! And take advantage of Gibson's Election Day Sale!
In the spirit of Election Day, Gibby would like to recommend Sofia Valdez, Future Prez by Andrea Beaty, illustrated by David Roberts!
Happy November! Gibby hopes you all had a fantastic Halloween. He dressed up as a little devil. No costume necessary.
This week, Gibby is recommending a new book by Jory John from the "Food Group" series that includes The Bad Seed, The Good Egg, The Cool Bean, and more. This one is called The Sour Grape!
Gibby loves our local authors, and he's especially excited to recommend a book that's officially out today called Maddie and Mabel Take the Lead, by friend of Gibson's Bookstore, Kari Allen! Happy Book Birthday, Kari!
Gibby continues to be an adorable little terror, which is probably why he is so excited to recommend The Three Billy Goats Gruff by Mac Barnett, illustrated by Jon Klassen. Gibby really relates to every single character in this retelling of a classic fairy tale.
Gibby's October 11th pick
Gibby, who was found abandoned in one of our bathrooms and rescued by Bookseller Jo, knows better than most how important things like community and compassion and generosity are. This week, our favorite feline is recommending a picture book that hits very close to home.
Gibby's pick this week is a delightful little book for young humans called This Joy! by Shelley Johannes. We could all use more joy in our lives, right?
Is there anything funnier than animals in human clothes? Gibby doesn't think so. That's why this week he's recommending a book that comes out next Tuesday that Booksellers Jo and Ryan learned about at the NEIBA Fall Conference. It's called The Underpants by Tammi Sauer, illustrated by Joren Cull, and it's sure to delight young humans everywhere. (Bookseller Ryan's kiddos have been giggling about it for days, now).
Gibby is...a bit of a terror. And we love him for it. This week, Gibby is recommending a book that has a title he's heard on more than one occasion from Bookseller Jo. It's called Books Aren't for Eating by Carlie Sorosiak, illustrated by Manu Montoya.
Gibby's September 13th pick
Gibby is at his very core a Bookstore Cat, which is why he is so delighted to recommend a brand new book this week called Goodnight, Little Bookstore by Amy Cherrix, illustrated by E.B. Goodale.
Gibby has decided that since the weather is cooling off and apparently Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back (he's not sure what those are, but thinks they smell nice), that it's time to start celebrating Halloween. What better way to kick off Halloween with the young humans than with a new book starring everyone's favorite crayons? The Crayons Trick or Treat by Drew Daywalt, illustrated by Oliver Jeffers, is the newest picture book in the series that started with The Day the Crayons Quit.
Gibby is a cat of impeccable taste, which is why you should trust him when he says you should all read Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston, as well as the sequel (out today!), Amari and the Great Game! If you like spies, quests, magic, and adventure, this series is for you! Described as Artemis Fowl meets Men in Black, this middle grade fantasy series is perfect for readers ages 9 and up!
Gibby wants to remind you that his human, Bookseller Jo, is the in-conversation partner for the virtual event with Mona Awad TONIGHT, Tuesday, August 9th at 7pm ET!
Aside from promoting tonight's event , Gibby would also like to recommend a new book out today, Parfait, not Parfait! by Scott Rothman, illustrated by Avery Monsen.

Gibby wants to make sure you all know that his human, Bookseller Jo, is the in-conversation partner for the upcoming virtual event with Mona Awad on Tuesday, August 9th at 7pm ET!

All cats think they're amazing (and they are!) which is why Gibby is so drawn to this picture book, out today, I Am Amazing! by Alissa Holder and Zulekha Holder-Young, illustrated by Nneka Myers.
There's a book out today that Gibby loves, and not just because it's about food! It's called Berry Song by Michaela Goade, and it's a beautiful picture book about a child and their grandparent.
Gibby likes to eat just about everything, so he is delighted to recommend the third picture book in the Llama series, Llama Rocks the Cradle of Chaos by Jonathan Stutzman and Heather Fox. The Llama books are laugh out loud funny - you can often tell when one of our booksellers is reading one, because their laughter can be heard all over the store - and they just keep getting funnier. Highly recommend for all of the young humans in your life.
Gibby is excited to share with you all a picture book that's all about emotions!
What Feelings Do When No One's Looking by Tina Oziewicz, illustrated by Aleksandra Zajac, translated by Jennifer Croft is perfect for young readers who are learning about their big feelings.
Look at how tiny Gibby was! He has certainly grown into those paws (and clothes) now.
This week Gibby would like to recommend a brand new picture book that celebrates the quiet power of being different: The Surprise by Zadie Smith, Nick Laird, and Magenta Fox.
Gibby likes to cause all sorts of mischief whenever possible, so when he heard about a book that encouraged painting a whole school purple, he got very excited and wanted to tell you all about it. Of course that's not actually what this book is about, but we'll let him recommend it anyway because it's a great picture book.
Gibby's staff pick this week is The World Needs More Purple Schools by Kristen Bell & Benjamin Hart, illustrated by Daniel Wiseman. This is the follow up to The World Needs More Purple People.
Gibby would like to recommend a very special book, out today, called Noodle and the No Bones Day by Jonathan Graziano. Gibby has yet to choose to have a "No Bones Day", but perhaps someday in the future he might. Bookseller Jo would certainly appreciate it.
It's almost Pride Month, and Gibby really wants to share a book that just came out today that he thinks everyone should read.
It's called Queer Ducks (And Other Animals) by Eliot Schrefer and it is delightful and educational.
Bookseller Jo took Gibby on an outside adventure last week and he didn't hate it! He might have even enjoyed it!
To celebrate, Gibby encourages all of his young human friends to read a book about another cool cat who goes on an outside adventure: Pete the Cat Goes Camping by James Dean.
It's a chilly, rainy day and we wish we could curl up in a warm, cozy little nest like Gibby. What a lucky cat.
Gibby has discovered "Choose Your Own Adventure" style books, and this week he's delighted to recommend a new one for young humans, Endlessly Ever After by Laurel Snyder and Dan Santat!
"This funny, original choose-your-path picture book of fractured fairy tales will charm any young fan of the genre, putting the power of storytelling right in the reader's hands!
"Grab your basket and your coat. Put on some walking shoes.
Turn the page and begin: Which story will you choose?"
Gibby's Staff Pick this week is none other than the new Cat Kid Comic Club: On Purpose by Dav Pilkey.
"The Cat Kid Comic Club is deep in discovery in the newest graphic novel in the hilarious and heartwarming worldwide bestselling series by Dav Pilkey, the author and illustrator of Dog Man."
Gibby's Staff Pick this week is In Praise of Good Bookstores by Jeff Deutsch. Gibby, as all of us, loves a good bookstore. (He's rather partial to one in particular, of course).
"From a devoted reader and lifelong bookseller, an eloquent and charming reflection on the singular importance of bookstores."
There's a new book out this week that Gibby is very excited about! Perfectly Pegusus is a story about a lonely pegasus named Nimbus who learns about friendship with the help of Kelp, the unicorn from Not Quite Narwhal! This companion story is sweet and wholesome and a must-have for everyone who's ever needed a friend.
This week, Gibby wants to recommend a book called Cats & Books, which features photos of cats with books, and short bios about each feline.
Take, for example, Layla Wobbles, Plague Cat, Princess of Darkness, from West Yorkshire, England. She moves around so much when she's dreaming, she once flew up into the air and flipped over and still didn't wake up.
Get this book for the people in your life who think that every bookstore should have its own feline friend.
It will shock absolutely no one that Gibby continues to be full of mischief and mayhem. His recent favorite pasttime is knocking over the trashcan and pretending to be a raccoon as he skitters the trash all over Bookseller Jo's kitchen.
Therefore, this week Gibby's Staff Pick is one of our Finger Puppet Books: Baby Raccoon.
Gibby loves mice, although mice do not love Gibby (for very good reasons). This week he's recommending Mouse Seasons by Leo Lionni.
Gibby is apparently celebrating Mardi Gras this year by clawing open a giant plastic jug of water, spilling it all over Jo's kitchen floor, which he then rolled in before going to wake up Jo. Nice, Gibby.
Mischievous Gibby is all about water this week, and therefore recommends The Aquanaut by Dan Santat.
Gibby spent his President's Day reading a new book called The White House Cat by Cylin Busby.
Gibby hopes that you all had a nice Valentine's Day, and he wants to dedicate this book to you all: The Shy Little Kitten's Valentine's Day by Andrea Posner-Sanchez.
Gibby doesn't usually watch the news, but he's heard a lot of people talking about a graphic novel called Maus recently (which obviously piqued his interest, as a cat), and he wants you all to know that we do in fact have The Complete Maus: A Survivor's Tale back in stock for everyone.
Since Gibby has become illustrated, he wanted to recommend a graphic novel this week!
New Kid by Jerry Craft is the winner of the Newbery Medal, Coretta Scott King Author Award, and Kirkus Prize for Young Readers’ Literature!
Perfect for fans of Raina Telgemeier and Gene Luen Yang, New Kid is a timely, honest graphic novel about starting over at a new school where diversity is low and the struggle to fit in is real.
