Poetry Society of NH - Alfred Nicol & Priscilla Turner Spada

Wednesday, May 17th, 2017, 7 p.m.

The Poetry Society meets at Gibson's Bookstore on the third Wednesday of most months! Our headliners this month are Alfred Nicol & Priscilla Turner Spada. An open mic follows their readings. All are welcome, newcomers are encouraged!

Priscilla Turner Spada is a poet and artist residing in Newburyport, MA.  Both her poetry and handmade glass beads/jewelry have appeared in numerous publications. Her new chapbook, Light in Unopened Windows, was published by Finishing Line Press in Sept. 2016.

Mimi White says "her poems dare to open windows of the past" and ask "can memory retrieve and hold what is lost?" Alfred Nicol says her poem, "What I Know," " is a lovely elegy for the father she never met."  Rhina Espaillat says "these are poems that render us emotionally richer and wiser for the shared remembering of losses we all know."

Priscilla is a regular reader at the Portsmouth Poet Laureate poetry hoots and the Powow River poetry readings among others. She has also sung for 20 years with Voices from the Heart, Portsmouth, NH.

Alfred Nicol’s new collection of poetry, Animal Psalms, was published in 2016 by Able Muse Press. Nicol has published two other collections, Elegy for Everyone (2009), and Winter Light, which received the 2004 Richard Wilbur Award. His poems have appeared in Poetry, The New England Review, Dark Horse, First Things, Atlanta Review, Commonweal, The Formalist, The Hopkins Review, and other literary journals.

Nicol lives in Newburyport, MA, with his wife, Gina DiGiovanni. Please visit his website at http://www.alfrednicol.com/
