Poetry Society of NH: Jennifer Militello and a celebration of Charles Simic

Thursday, July 25th, 2019, 5:30 p.m.

The Poetry Society of New Hampshire meets at Gibson's Bookstore ten months out of the year! This month the headliners are Charles Simic and Jennifer Militello. Come with your verse appreciating ears on.

Please note: our originally scheduled event with Charles Simic and Jennifer Militello will go on, but without Charles Simic. Mr Simic is staying home on doctor's advice following some sudden health issues. We plan to follow Jennifer Militello's reading with an evening of poetry celebrating the work of Charles Simic--all of our guests are encouraged to read a favorite poem by this amazing writer. We will also be reading a letter Mr Simic has written to New Hampshire poetry lovers and to Gibson's Bookstore.

About the poet:

Jennifer Militello is the author of four collections of poetry, including A Camouflage of Specimens and Garments (Tupelo Press, 2016), Body Thesaurus (Tupelo Press, 2013), named one of the best books of 2013 by Best American Poetry, and Flinch of Song (Tupelo Press, 2009), winner of the Tupelo Press First Book Award. She is also the author of the nonfiction book Knock Wood, winner of the Dzanc Nonfiction Award and forthcoming from Dzanc Books in August of this year. Her poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, The Nation, The New Republic, The Paris Review, Poetry, and Tin House, and have been anthologized in such publications as Best New Poets, Poem-a-Day: 365 Poems for Every Occasion, and The Manifesto Project.
