Matt Osgood visits Gibson's Bookstore to talk about earning a living with freelance writing, as he presents Write Now! The Guide to Making It in Freelance Writing.
Matt Osgood did everything right. He graduated college and armed himself against the professional world with a journalism degree. With the journalism world folding in front of him, he took a job teaching English. He followed the typical narrative: Get up, go to work each day, earn a paycheck, go to bed. It was the same thing every single day. In search of professional and personal fulfillment, he took a risk to join the writing world again.
When he returned to writing, journalism was undergoing a fascinating transition. Traditional journalism -- and it’s gatekeepers -- were gone. Instead, it was a wide-open landscape with infinite opportunities, but with more modern barriers to be broken. Write Now: The Guide to Making it in Freelance Writing is more than just a writing book. It’s a step-by-step guide to living the life you want to live, whether that is writing or expressing your expertise in whatever field you’re qualified. It’s the how-to on where to find the opportunities, how to maximize them and capitalize on them financially in an ever-changing professional landscape. It’s about finding -- and living -- your best life.
About the author: Matt Osgood has been a professional journalist for more than a decade and his work has appeared in numerous national publications. His career has spanned coverage of both professional and amateur sports, including all four major U.S. sports and the Olympic Games; He's written stories about politics, culture, travel, food, and, most importantly, booze. He's had the best seats in the house for sporting events and whiskey sent to his doorstep, both in the name of "work."
